FOREST PARK, Ohio — City officials in Ohio have reached a settlement with a firefighter-medic who sued over being forced to cover up her tattoo.
Linda Goetz claimed she was the only member of the Forest Park Fire Department forced to cover up her ink, according to News5.
The website reported she was ordered to wear turtlenecks in 100-degree heat and was even hospitalized for heat exhaustion.
In the suit, Goetz claimed sexual and racial discrimination. Goetz, who is white, said a black female firefighter served as a firefighter while her tattoo was visible and was never ordered to cover it up.
The article said Goetz was reprimanded when she eventually refused orders to cover her dandelion and dragonfly tattoo.
The department’s policy says tattoos may be required to be covered at the fire chief’s discretion.
