Respect and trust is vital for any type of successful relationship.

The same stands true for those in EMS. When you’re on scene, you want to trust that the guy or girl behind you has your back in case of an emergency. You also want to trust that your EMS supervisor has your (and your crews’) best interests in mind.

In return, any superior, including an EMS supervisor, deserves your respect and vice versa.

We asked our fans on Facebook what they wish their EMS supervisor knew about them. Here are some of their responses.

1. “I am a professional and don’t let my feelings show on the job, but inside I’m freaking out and have a lot of insecurities. I second guess what I know is right. I am human.” – Laura Gleason-Gauvin

2. “Even though we get into the career to help others, passion alone can’t be the only thing that keeps us sustained. Having a decent boss that is empathetic goes a long way in longevity.” – Conner Barnes

3. “That those who feel appreciated will always do more than what is expected of them. Overall, morale directly effects productivity. I am human, not a machine.” – Holly Burke

4. “That I want the absolute best for my patients. I still care if my company succeeds and I want to represent my company, myself and my profession in the best light possible. That when I complain or call … it’s not just a gripe session. I feel deeply about how things are done and how things happen.” – Wendi Estes Worsham

5. “That communication goes both ways. I only work two days a week – a lot happens when I’m not here. Communicate and let us know what’s going on in the company. Everything I learn is through ‘water cooler gossip’ and that’s wrong over 50 percent of the time.” – Brian Skok

6. “We are people just like you with families, goals and dreams. Please stop treating us a dime a dozen. We get tired, hungry and sleepy just like you. We need downtime just like you. You want respect, show us that same respect.” – Leslie Tom
