CONEWAGO TOWNSHIP, Pa. — Conewago Township officials have collected input from local fire officials concerning a proposed joint comprehensive study of Adams County Emergency Services, and the township as a result has approved paying for a share of the study.
At this week’s meeting, Supervisor Robert Legore said in his role as the board’s liaison he recently contacted Fire Chief Craig Hagarman and Vice President Wayne Reid from Southeastern Adams Volunteer Emergency Services to find out the company’s thoughts on the joint study.
“They told me SAVES has people on the joint-study committee and they think the study will be an important part of keeping volunteers trained and getting funds for equipment,” Legore told the supervisors.
After hearing of SAVES’ endorsement, the supervisors approved spending up to the requested amount — $150 — to help fund the study.
The study will review past, present and future emergency-service levels and funding needs, and hopefully find solutions that will help to preserve volunteer organizations, officials have said.
The study is to be completed by an independent consulting firm for approximately $13,000, officials said, with the majority of the funding from county grants and the $150 contribution from each participating municipality.
