Fire destroys veteran dispatcher’s home

Janet Burns was on duty when her house caught fire; the fire department set up a GoFundMe account to help

ENON, Ohio — A veteran dispatcher lost her home in a fire over the weekend.

WDTN reported that everyone escaped the blaze uninjured, but the house is a complete loss.

The Enon Fire Department set up a GoFundMe to help the family.

“Dispatchers are the calming voice during an emergency and the guardians who send aid to those in need,” the fundraiser page said. “Janet Burns is a dedicated member of our fire department family and we want her to know we are here for her.”

A neighbor who lost her home in a fire 11 years ago brought a bucket full of supplies.

“I didn’t have anything,” neighbor Jayne Leonard said. “I didn’t have clothes to wear the next day. I didn’t have a nightgown. I didn’t have deodorant.”

After the blaze, police secured some recovered property from the home. However, someone later stole it. Officials are asking for anyone with information to call Mad River Township dispatch.
