SPANISH FORK, Utah — A 911 dispatcher was honored for helping a child who was a victim of an ATV crash.

Deseret News reported that Janine Gingras was awarded Call of the Week after an emotional call with a 7-year-old who was seriously injured in the crash and was suffering from chest pain and a bloody mouth.

“This was an emotional call with praying in the background and the child moaning in pain, with gurgling at times being heard,” Utah Valley Dispatch Special Service District quality improvement coordinator Brenda Argyle said. “Not only was the location in a remote area up Spanish Fork Canyon, but there (were) no coordinates to easily find the incident.”

Gingras knew it would be difficult to locate the victim, so she used commonly known landmarks to help the child identify the location. She stayed on the phone with the child for 47 minutes until helicopters arrived.
