John Lotts was running a marathon last year when he began having chest pains

ASHLAND, Ore. — After an EMT saved a runner’s life during a marathon, the man decided to thank him in a creative way.

John Lotts began having chest pains while running a marathon last November; after running the first 10 miles, he went to a first aid station for help. While he was being transported to the hospital, he went into cardiac arrest.

“I remember coming back out of it ... I just didn’t know what happened,” Lotts told KOBI5.

Firefighter-EMT Daniel Caples was one of the EMS providers who helped revive Lotts. As a way to thank Caples and others who treated him, Lotts presented them with medals from a race he ran in February.
