Mass. firefighters deliver baby in back of ambulance

The mother and baby girl are doing well, officials say

BEDFORD, Mass. —Two firefighters arrived at a Bedford home in time to get a woman in labor into the back of an ambulance, but the baby girl wasn’t willing to wait to get to the hospital before arriving in the world.

Just after 8:30 a.m., emergency crews received a 911 call for a woman who had gone into labor. An ambulance arrived at the home four minutes later, officials said, and they were able to get the mother into the back of the ambulance for the trip to a Boston hospital.

They made it as far as the Internet 93 southbound Sullivan Square exit before the firefighters delivered the baby girl in the back of the ambulance.
