Switching Lubricants Can Cut Vehicle Operating Costs Significantly

PORTER, Texas — The pressure is on for fleet owners and managers these days, as financial concerns push companies to keep their vehicles in service longer. Meanwhile, fuel costs remain high, and replacement parts are becoming costlier, thanks to the continuing trend among automakers to combine different components into single, larger modules.

The question is: How can fleet managers reduce operating costs while keeping their vehicles in top condition? One way is by upgrading lubricants.

“It sounds counterintuitive to say that you should spend more for a lubricant because it will save you money,” says Mark McFann, communications director at Royal Purple. “But independent research has shown that upgrading motor oils, transmission fluids and gear oils significantly reduce repair and maintenance costs, and improve fuel economy and reduce emissions.

Improved fuel economy. According to independent research done by North Carolina State University, using Royal Purple motor oil instead of other “energy-conserving motor oils” offers fuel economy gains of up to 4.5%. That’s because Royal Purple motor oil propriety lubricant technology reduces friction and improves combustion efficiency, which also translates into 1-3% more horsepower and torque output.

Increased wear protection. Falex No. 1 High Pressure Tests indicate that Royal Purple’s film strength is up to 400% stronger than other leading motor oils, which means the oil reduces both wear and heat to provide much greater engine protection than other oils (either synthetic or mineral-based). In addition, Royal Purple motor oil is extremely tenacious, so it adheres to engine surfaces after shutdown, thus providing increased engine protection at startup.

Reduced heat. By reducing friction, Royal Purple lubricants reduce heat dramatically. When Longview Inspection recently tested components that lacked a cooling system, they found a simple change to Royal Purple lubes reduced temperatures by as much as 24 to 44 degrees F. Because heat is the No. 1 killer of vehicle transmissions, swapping to Royal Purple automatic or manual trans fluid will extend the lifetime of a transmission considerably, and the same goes for rear ends and transfer cases.

Reduced maintenance. The ASTM Thin Film Oxygen Uptake Test (TFOUT) indicates that Royal Purple provides oxidation stability up to 500% higher than leading synthetic oils, which means longer oil life. This allows companies to safely extend vehicles’ oil change intervals-up to 12,000 miles or more for gasoline engines, as long as they continue to change the filter regularly. This saves time and money, and reduces the amount of used motor oil to dispose of.

Royal Purple lubricants are made from a blend of synthetic oils and the company’s proprietary, synthetic Synerlec additive technology. Synerlec greatly reduces heat and wear, and it provides excellent rust/corrosion protection.

Royal Purple motor oil is available in all manufacturers’ recommended grades for cars and trucks, motorcycles, ATVs, snowmobiles, racing engines and RVs. It’s compatible with both gasoline and diesel engines

Royal Purple makes synthetic products for all your automotive needs, including engine oils, transmission fluids, gear oil, coolant additives, fuel system cleaner, power steering fluid, chain lubricant, grease, penetrating lubricant, assembly lube and shop compressor lubricant.
