BENTON COUNTY, Ark. — Two people were killed early Sunday morning after police said their car collided with an ambulance that was transporting a patient.
Police said Sasha Hendricks and Ronald Pugh, who both lived in Siloam Springs, were driving north on Chambers Springs road at Highway 412 when they ran a stop sign. They said an ambulance struck their car, pushing it off the road into the center divider.
The ambulance was transporting a patient to a different location. Officials said it was not traveling with its lights on. Both Hendricks and Pugh were pronounced dead at the scene.
On Sunday, their friend Lance Schrumpf went to the intersection to pay his respects, and do a bit of looking around.
“A shame it ended so quick, you would have never thought it in a million years,” he said.
Schrumpf said he can only imagine what the final moments before the wreck were like.
“You look at the situation and you see how close they were to making it,” he said.
Neighbors that live in the area said this is one of very few crashes that have happened at the intersection of 412 and Chambers Road in recent times.
Officials said three people were in the ambulance at the time of the wreck. They were taken to the hospital for treatment.
