CHARLOTTE, N.C. — A patient in North Carolina was shot and killed as they were being treated by paramedics in the back of an ambulance.
Charlotte-Mecklenburg police had responded to a call about a disturbance at a hotel, and found five or six people gathered in the hotel parking lot, one of whom was experiencing shortness of breath, according to WBTV. Mecklenburg EMS Agency (MEDIC) was called to assist the patient, and as they were being treated in the back of the ambulance, they were shot multiple times and later pronounced dead at the scene.
Police said the patient had asked if a friend could assist them in the ambulance, and when the request was denied, the suspect left, returned, and shot the victim.
Officials say no paramedics or police officers were injured during the shooting and the suspect was taken into custody.
