Ohio ambulance, car collide; 1 dead, 3 injured

A pickup truck struck the ambulance before veering off the side of the road

PERRY TOWNSHIP, Ohio — A man died Thursday after his vehicle crossed the center lane and struck an ambulance.

Officials said the ambulance had its lights and sirens activated when the crash occurred. A vehicle in front of the pickup truck pulled over to wait for the ambulance to pass, but the truck did not stop in time. After striking the ambulance, the truck veered off the side of the road.

The driver of the truck, Douglas Shipman, 52, died from the impact of the crash, reported WKYC. A passenger in Shipman’s vehicle, Jacob Shipman, 21, was transported to the hospital. Both were wearing seat belts.

Two individuals inside the ambulance sustained minor injures. Charles Eisenhart, 51, who was operating the ambulance, and passenger Carmen Tibaldi, 31, were both transported to the hospital.

Officials are investigating the crash.
