BUTLER TOWNSHIP, Pa. — Two EMS providers and an EMS student were injured after a tractor-trailer rammed into the back of a Pennsylvania ambulance.

PAhomepage.com reported a paramedic, EMT and an EMS student where in the ambulance when the collision occurred. All three were taken to the hospital with minor injuries. The truck driver was not injured.

The ambulance was not responding to an emergency call and had not been dispatched. A source said the EMS providers were on a highway looking for a lost pet they had learned about on social media, according to the report.

“Well, obviously there are a lot of questions. We’d like to get the answers to the questions,” said Charles Altmiller, Butler Township Supervisor.

The paramedic and EMT were placed on administrative leave while the crash is investigated.

“We are conducting an internal investigation and will meet with the state police after they conclude their investigation into the crash,” said Todd Smith, president of the ambulance company.

The ambulance had to be towed back to the Butler Township Fire Department following the crash. A back-up ambulance is currently being used to cover calls.
