A 13-year-old girl driving on a town road failed to stop at a stop sign and crashed into another vehicle in Green County Monday, sending five people to the hospital, one with life-threatening injuries, authorities reported.

The crash happened at about 5:14 p.m. Monday at Bethel Road and County B in Green County, about three miles south of Monroe, the Green County Sheriff’s Department said.

The preliminary investigation showed that the 13-year-old driver, Kaitlin Whiteaker, of Monroe, was southbound on Bethel Road in the town of Clarno when she didn’t stop at the stop sign at County B and hit a pickup truck driven by Teresa Jackson, 37, Monroe.

After the collision, the truck hit a house at the corner, but the owner, Dennis Jordan, 53, wasn’t injured.

A passenger in Whiteaker’s vehicle, Drury Niebuhr, 13, of Monroe, suffered life-threatening injuries and was taken to the hospital by Med Flight helicopter.

Whiteaker, Jackson, and two passengers in her vehicle — Devin Buol, 16, and Hannah Buol, 14, both of Monroe — were taken by EMS to the hospital with non-life threatening injuries.

The crash remains under investigation.

The report didn’t indicate if Whiteaker received any citations or faces any charges.
