CHARLOTTE, N.C. — Mecklenburg EMS Agency - Medic’s Special Operations paramedics are bringing advanced medical care into some of the region’s highest-risk situations, from SWAT raids and hostage rescues to barricaded subjects and high-risk warrants.

Launched in 1994 with just five tactical medics embedded with SWAT, the program has grown into a dedicated Special Operations unit that works alongside police, bomb squads and other local, state and federal teams.

Selection is highly competitive; candidates must already have years of field paramedic experience before completing additional certifications such as Prehospital Trauma Life Support and Tactical Emergency Medical Service, along with intensive scenario-based training and joint drills.
