UFC fighter cradles bleeding 94-year-old, calls 911

After falling and slashing her head, the injured grandmother crawled out to her driveway screaming for help

DIX HILLS, N.Y. — UFC Middleweight champion Chris Weidman rescued his 94-year-old neighbor who lay bleeding in her N.Y. driveway.

After hearing screams for help, Weidman drove up the street to find Anna Croenlein bleeding profusely from her head. Croenlein explained she’d slipped while eating breakfast and cracked her head on a glass table, NY Daily News reports.

While applying pressure to the wound, Weidman called 911and then called a police officer friend for help.

Dix Hills Fire Department Chief Bill Stio arrived on the scene to find Weidman pressing a towel against Croenlein’s head.

“He was in the garage with the woman, he flagged us down, his car was actually in the middle of the street,” Stio said. “There was blood on the floor, there was blood on the wall. The woman’s cordless phone was on the ground with blood on it.”

“Had she been left unattended for a long period of time, she could have bled out enough to lose consciousness,” Stio added. “His intervention was definitely key in getting this woman to the hospital.”

Croenlein was rushed to hospital and diagnosed with a minor concussion. She received nine staples to seal the wound on her head.
