STAFFORD, N.J. — A retired combat medic came to the aid of a Tuckerton man who was critically injured in a crash on Route 72 Saturday evening, police said.
The single-vehicle crash happened about 6:48 p.m. when a 2004 Suzuki motorcycle operated by Robert Perotti, 53, of Tuckerton was attempting to merge onto Route 72 eastbound from Route 9 and struck the curb at the edge of the entrance ramp, Stafford police said in a Facebook post.
Perotti was thrown from the motorcycle and seriously injured in the collision, police said.
A retired combat medic who happened to be traveling on Route 72 at the time, stopped and “rendered life-saving measures until paramedics and police arrived on scene,” according to the Facebook post.
Perotti was flown by medical helicopter to Robert Wood Johnson University Hospital in New Brunswick. Police did not have an update on his condition.
He was not wearing an approved helmet at the time of the crash, police said.
