LOOKOUT MOUNTAIN, Tenn. — A hiker fell 30 feet off a bluff’s edge, prompting a rescue at a popular destination near the Tennessee-Georgia border, authorities say.
Rescuers with Lookout Mountain Fire Department and Chattanooga-Hamilton County Rescue were called to Sunset Rock on Saturday, Oct. 28, about a hiker that had fallen, city fire officials wrote on Facebook.
Photos from the scene show firefighters loading the 22-year-old woman onto a stretcher and wheeling her down the rugged mountain.
The popular mountain trail is part of Chickamauga & Chattanooga National Military Park, according to the National Park Service. It features more than 30 miles of trails, many of which are old railroad beds dating to the 19th century, officials said.
A doctor at the scene tended to the victim, who authorities said didn’t appear to have severe injuries. She was taken to a hospital for treatment.
Her condition wasn’t known as of Monday, Oct. 30.
