NEW YORK — NYPD officers in a helicopter rescued a man whose boat was stranded on a rock jetty Thursday. It was an especially windy day on the Raritan Bay.
The video shows officers hovering over the stranded man, Timothy Shanahan Sr. and his son, Timothy Jr., 22, before lowering a rope to lift the eldest to safety.
The younger Timothy was able to walk 400 yards through shallow water near the jetty with help from NYPD scuba divers.
Timothy Sr. told officers he has had 10 heart attacks and four strokes, which is why he needed to be placed in the basket and airlifted out.
Both men were released in good condition, according to the New York Post.
