ATLANTIC CITY, N.J. — A pair of fishermen, an EMT and two Atlantic City police officers rescued an unconscious man early Saturday from a burning vehicle involved a two-car crash along Route 30.
The fishermen — Jeramie Cassilis and Jeffrey Bordley — managed to cut the 29-year-old driver’s seat belt and attempted to remove the man from the car, but the flames forced them to back away as officers raced to the scene of the crash, Atlantic City police said Sunday.
When police arrived, officers Chris Massey and Michael Kedziora got help from EMT Matthew Brown and quickly pulled the driver from the car. Police said the actions of the fishermen were “instrumental” in the rescue of the Atlantic City man, who was hospitalized with serious injuries.
The vehicle was headed east near milepost 55.6 around 3:45 a.m. when the driver veered off the road and struck an embankment, police said. The crash sent the car into the air before it landed 50 feet away, striking concrete pillars and a utility pole head-on.
The vehicle was then struck by another car and caught fire. The driver of the second vehicle, a 65-year-old Atlantic City man was also seriously injured, officials said.
