OVERLAND PARK, Kan. — More than a dozen EMS professionals were awarded grants and other recognitions at the National Association of EMS Physicians’ (NAEMSP) 2020 Annual Meeting in San Diego this weekend.
“We are lucky to have such dedicated members,” NAEMSP President Dr. David K. Tan said. “Many EMS professionals work hard to improve patient care not only through research and advocacy, but also by volunteering to help other professionals in organizations such as NAEMSP. We’re proud of all of our members and the important work they do.”
The awards included honors for outstanding research and accomplishments, as well as two $5,000 research grants from NAEMSP and the AMR Foundation for Research and Education which were awarded to researchers from the University of Texas Health Science Center at San Antonio, who will assess the physiological stress of lights and sirens on patients and pulmonary function testing of patients during ground transport.
The Ronald D. Stewart Award for lasting, major contribution to the national EMS community was given to AMR National Director of Resuscitation and Accountable Care Lynn White, who is also a Fellow of the Academy of Emergency Medical Services (FAEMS) and member of the National EMS Advisory Council.
The award for Best Disaster Research Presentation, sponsored by the National Disaster Life Support Foundation, was presented to a team from the Medical College of Wisconsin, which compared the application of the SALT and START triage systems with regard to accuracy and timing.
