WHARTON TOWNSHIP, Pa. — Two people died and seven were injured early Sunday morning after a vehicle crash in Wharton Township.
The crash, which involved two vehicles, happened just before 6 a.m., said Fayette EMS Chief Rick Adobato.
Seven Fayette EMS ambulances and a paramedic supervisor responded to the scene at the intersection of Route 40 and Hawes Road. Farmington, Markleysburg and Hopwood fire departments also responded.
One patient died at the scene and another died en route to Uniontown Hospital via helicopter. Two other patients were transported to Uniontown by ambulance, and five were flown to J.W. Ruby Memorial Hospital in Morgantown.
Life Flight, STAT MedEvac and Health Net helicopters flew to the scene, landing near the Nemacolin Woodlands Resort.
Adobato said the crash “strained our resources,” but the crews responded well.
“The volunteer firemen in particular went above and beyond,” Adobato said. “They were awesome.”
