VAN BUREN COUNTY, Mich. — The U.S. Fire Administration has identified the firefighter who died after coming into contact with a downed power line as Lt. Ethan M. Quillen, 28.

Quillen served with the Paw Paw Volunteer Fire Department.

He and other crew members were at a scene where ice storms had downed power lines and trees were on fire. While they were there, a nearby tree broke, causing a power line to collapse and strike Quillen.

He was immediately transported to a hospital, where he was pronounced dead, the USFA said.

He spent four years in the fire service.

VAN BUREN COUNTY, Mich. — A Paw Paw firefighter died after coming into contact with a downed power line, state police said.

Firefighters across West Michigan responded to dozens of calls Wednesday of downed power lines and trees caused by freezing rain and ice.

In Van Buren County, firefighters were in the 42000 block of 30th Street, in Almena Township, when a firefighter was injured about 6:10 p.m. Wednesday, Feb. 22.

Other details surrounding the incident were not immediately available.
