MADISON, Wis. — First responders were called to assist a woman who was locked inside her minivan when the car began to accelerate and ran into the back of an ambulance.
The Wisconsin State Journal reported the woman fell down some stairs and had suffered a head injury earlier in the day. She stopped driving while in traffic.
“Chocks were placed behind both rear wheels and one chock was placed on the right front tire, but before a chock could be placed on the other front tire, the minivan started to accelerate,” said Madison Fire Department spokeswoman Cynthia Schuster.
A firefighter broke the driver’s window in an attempt to stop the car, but the minivan had already begun accelerating. The front of the car ran up the back of an ambulance. The minivan rolled onto its side and firefighters were able to get the woman out.
The woman was transported to the hospital after the incident.
