OTTAWA, Canada — Christine Caron, the Ottawa woman who lost three of her limbs from an infection after one of her dogs bit her, is back home after spending months in hospital. Just in time for her son’s birthday on Friday and Christmas.
“Just to be home and healthy and have my whole family together and that everybody stays that way. I’m so happy I made my 50th year. I mean I just made it clawing,” said Caron.
On May 22 Caron was playing tug-of-war with her dogs when one of them, a Shih Tzu mix named Buster, nipped her hand. The wound became infected when another of the dogs licked it. She went into septic shock from Capnocytophaga canimorsus, a common bacterium in a dog’s saliva.
