COLORADO SPRINGS, Colo. — Fire trucks and other emergency vehicles will wind their way through northern Colorado Springs and El Paso County on Monday following the funeral for a fallen Cimarron Hills firefighter who died after being injured on duty.
The 45-minute procession will travel from New Life Church — 11025 Voyager Parkway on the city’s north side — and head south to the Cimarron Hills fire station about 13 miles away.
The procession starts about 90 minutes after an 11 a.m. funeral service at the church for Jermaine Frye, who died last month after being hospitalized for a training injury. Representatives from state, local and county agencies are expected to participate.
The route starts on Interquest Parkway before traveling about 11 miles south on North Powers Boulevard. It will then turn left onto Constitution Avenue and right on Peterson Road before passing Cimarron Hills Fire Station No. 1 and ending after a right turn on Palmer Park Boulevard.
Supporters are encouraged to stand along Peterson Road as the procession rolls by.
Family asks anyone attending the funeral service to wear purple or Denver Broncos attire to honor Frye’s love for the NFL team.
As of Sunday afternoon, a GoFundMe page set up to help support Frye’s fiancée, Megan Brockman, and the couple’s unborn child had raised nearly $20,000.
Gov. John Hickenlooper has ordered flags to be lowered to half staff at public buildings on Monday in honor of the firefighter-paramedic.
Frye, 31, died Oct. 29, a day after he suffered an injury during a cardiovascular exercise. He was taken to the hospital for treatment and later released. At his home, he went into cardiac arrest and could not be revived.
His death is under investigation, pending results from the El Paso County Coroner’s Office.
