Md. EMS providers earn $200K thanks to overtime

Some EMTs and paramedics took home more than the mayor and city fire chief as a result of overtime pay

BALTIMORE, Md. — A few EMS providers in in the city of Baltimore earned an annual salary close to $200,000 in 2014 as a result of overtime pay.

A media investigation revealed that some EMTs and paramedics were being paid more than the mayor and the city fire chief. The highest paid paramedic took home almost $200,000, of which $120,000 was accrued through overtime, FOX Baltimore reports.

Union President Rick Hoffman told FOX, “You have ten people at a million dollars… That’s very easy to do.”

The city is undergoing a staff shortage, which has resulted in shift swapping.
