CLIFTON PARK, N.Y. — A college student working as a pizza deliveryman is being credited with saving an 83-year-old woman from her burning home in upstate New York.

Fire officials in the Albany suburb of Clifton Park say Grace Keefer’s house was engulfed in flames Sunday night when Raleigh Powell drove past on the way to a delivery. Powell stopped and ran to the home, where Kenneth Keefer told him his wife was in a bedroom.

The 20-year-old Powell shattered the bedroom window with his arm and pulled her to safety.

A local fire chief says Keefer and her husband weren’t seriously injured.

Powell, who suffered cuts on both arms helping Keefer, is working his way through community college delivering pizzas. He says his Army Reserve training helped him stay calm during the rescue.
