SACRAMENTO, Calif. — A Sacramento firefighter and paramedic was arrested and charged for allegedly going door-to-door at a mobile home park, offering to help seniors with their smoke detectors, and then stealing from them.
Craig White, 30, was charged with five counts of burglary and three counts of elder abuse, FOX40 reports.
An older couple living across the street from White said he knocked on their door and offered to change their light bulbs, and never stole anything.
White has been a Sacramento firefighter and paramedic for three years, and his arrest came as a surprise.
“I was both a little mystified and disappointed,” Fire Chief Walt White said during a press conference. “The individual in question is a member in good standing.”
He called it an isolated incident. The Citrus Heights Police Department is investigating the case, and the fire department is conducting an internal investigation.
White is on paid administrative leave pending the investigations.
