WASHINGTON — A firefighter-EMT reunited with a woman he pulled from a burning building.
WJLA reported that DC Fire and EMS firefighter-EMT Da’Von McRae, who has been on the job for a little more than a year, was filmed bringing Bettye Carter, 73, down four stories after a senior center went up in flames, displacing nearly 200 people.
“I’m not going to let anything happen to you, so if you go down, I go down,” McRae recalled telling Carter.
The incident was McRae’s first rescue, and the young responder reunited with Carter and her family a few days later.
“She’s a sweet young lady, Miss Carter. I’ll never forget Miss Carter,” he said.
Three years ago, McRae lost his father and fellow firefighter Lt. Kevin McRae in the line of duty.
“He’d be proud of me. He’d be proud,” he said.
