BANNING, Calif. — Officials said heavy rain played a factor in a crash that killed an off-duty EMT last week.
Stacey Warriner, 44, pulled over to aid a stranded motorist on her way to work Jan. 23, when an oncoming vehicle struck her. She died of her injuries Jan. 25, reported the Press Enterprise.
Officials said Jeffrey Cain, 54, lost control of his vehicle and spun out into the center median, where Warriner pulled over to help him. Warriner walked over to the driver’s window to see if Cain needed assistance. Shortly after, another vehicle, driven by 19-year-old Gabriel Romo, spun out of control and crashed into Cain’s vehicle, pinning Warriner between the two.
Warriner was transported to the hospital, where she died two days later. The two other drivers sustained minor injuries.
Officials said the heavy rain most likely caused both drivers to spin out of control.
Warriner served as an EMT for over 18 years; she leaves behind her husband and two children.
A GoFundMe page has raised over $5,000.
