WASHINGTON — A firefighter-EMT died Saturday after being critically injured in a vehicle crash a week before.
NBC Washington reported that D.C. Fire and EMS firefighter-EMT Robert Marshall, a 20-year veteran of the department, was standing in front of his truck in Pennsylvania when another truck hit his vehicle, causing it to strike him.
“Our thoughts and prayers are with his family and fellow firefighters,” the department said in a tweet.
Marshall was remembered as a responder who proved his dedication both in and out of the firehouse.
“It’s definitely empty today,” colleague Toree Holmes said. “Off-duty and on-duty he always just put everybody else ahead of himself, you know, no matter what. Good situation, bad situation.”
Marshall was also the station chef, a duty that he embraced with confidence.
“We’re kind of a diverse group here. Everybody likes different stuff. He’d cook three different meals twice a day,” Lt. Joe Boling said.
Lt. Boling added that Marshall was also the “Santa Clause for the neighborhood,” and was always eager to get a jump start on the role.
“You know, he started on me in October,” Lt. Boling said.
