ELYRIA, Ohio — A magnesium explosion injured an Elyria firefighter Wednesday night, according to Local 474.

Fire crews were battling a semi-trailer blaze on the Ohio Turnpike when the explosion happened. The trailer did not contain hazardous materials, Elyria Assistant Fire Chief Kevin Szabo told the Chronicle, but the blast happened due to water being used to put out the fire coming into contact with magnesium in the trailer.

The firefighter suffered a minor burn, was transported to a hospital, treated and released.
