MECHANIC FALLS, Maine — Auburn Fire Chief Frank Roma uses a DJI Phantom 3 drone for aerial photography, but it ended up playing a part in a river rescue Tuesday.
The fire department was one of a number of local departments who went to the Little Androscoggin in Mechanic Falls after two people who had been riding on an inner tube got stuck on a rock in the rapids. A 12-year-old boy was wearing a lifejacket, while an 18-year-old man was not.
The drone had a haul line attached to it and flew to the middle of the river, Roma said.
