MEDIC First Aid now licensed training provider for American Red Cross

Eugene, OR – October 30, 2013 –MEDIC First Aid, a member of Health & Safety Institute (HSI), has become an official Licensed Training Provider of the American Red Cross. In addition to offering its own American Safety & Health Institute and MEDIC First Aid CPR, AED, and first aid training programs, HSI will offer Red Cross classes through its National Training Solutions (NTS) network of instructors. The following Red Cross classes will be offered through MEDIC First Aid: • Bloodborne Pathogens • First Aid • Adult CPR/AED • Pediatric CPR/AED • Adult and Pediatric CPR/AED • Adult First Aid/CPR/AED • Pediatric First Aid/CPR/AED • Adult and Pediatric First Aid/CPR/AED • Babysitter’s Training • Babysitter’s Training with Pediatric First Aid/CPR • CPR/AED for Professional Rescuers and Health Care Providers “This partnership with the Red Cross provides a nationwide training solution that will help exponentially increase the number of trained bystanders able to respond to a sudden cardiac arrest (SCA) incident or other emergency situations,” explains HSI CEO Bill Clendenen. “We are pleased to join with the Red Cross in our shared goal of teaching these critical and simple lifesaving skills to as many people as possible.” “The response from our ASHI and MEDIC First Aid NTS instructors has been overwhelmingly positive. Over 85% of those that we have contacted would like to start delivering Red Cross courses through our partnership with them,” explains Melissa Rothweiler, OneSource NTS Manager. Nearly 383,000 out-of-hospital SCA incidents occur in the U.S. annually. During a sudden cardiac arrest, the normal electrical impulses in the heart unexpectedly become disorganized. The normally coordinated mechanical contraction of the heart muscle is lost, and a chaotic, quivering condition known as ventricular fibrillation can occur. Without early recognition and CPR from a bystander, the person will not survive. “Red Cross classes are designed to ensure that participants are properly skilled to help save lives and are prepared for emergency situations,” said Mike Chaplo, Vice President, Preparedness and Health and Safety Services, American Red Cross. “In fact, our programs are guided by nationally recognized experts in public health and emergency response to ensure participants get the latest in evidence-based knowledge.” About Health & Safety Institute Headquartered in Eugene, OR, Health & Safety Institute (HSI), is a leading global emergency care and response training organization.
