6 bystanders rescue, lift car off Colo. toddler

The Associated Press

GOLDEN, Colo. — A group of people are credited with saving the life of a 3-year-old who was hit by a car in a Wal-Mart parking lot on Saturday.

Witnesses say the toddler, Joshua Johnson, got away from his grandmother and then bent down, apparently to pick something up, when he was run over by a shopper looking for a parking spot. The Colorado State Patrol says the boy was wedged between the chassis of the 1996 Toyota Corolla and the ground.

Off-duty firefighter and paramedic Scott Martin and five other people managed to lift the car off the boy and then Martin crawled under and freed him. Martin’s wife, Jennifer, got his medical equipment and radio and helped call for help.
