PALM COAST, Fla. — The Southern Wind isn’t yet fit for sail.
The 76-foot boat is docked in a canal behind the Palm Coast home of its former owners, undergoing an extreme makeover from its California crew.
On a recent morning, a chaotic scene of construction plays out inside the cabin. A CD player pumping out rap and rock music competes with the whirring of a power tool. The stifling air is heavy with the scent of paint and chemicals. Piles of old carpet and other debris lie in the middle of the floor.
