On the heels of news that a Pa. EMT was killed by an Amtrak train, hosts Chris Cebollero and Kelly Grayson speak with guest Donny Richard on EMS providers can better handle mental health issues.
Richard is the outreach coordinator at the Brattleboro Retreat in Vermont, a mental health hospital that facility with an intensive outpatient program for patients. They discuss the stress EMS providers face, the high rate of suicide and triggers that can help EMTs and paramedics recognize they should seek help.
“This is a health care epidemic among first responders,” Richard said.
