GAITHERSBURG, Md. — The National Institute of Standards and Technology is seeking a virtual reality interface for first responders, and is putting the public to the test.

NIST launched a challenge and is asking people to submit a concept for a heads-up display that will help improve first responder navigation by delivering location-based services through virtual reality.

Through NIST’s Public Safety Innovation Accelerator Program that funds virtual reality improvements to communication systems, the four-stage challenge will award up to $125,000 in prize money for the top seven designs.

Finalists will also be paid to travel to the 2018 PSCR Stakeholder conference and be involved in speaking engagements and networking opportunities.

Entries will be accepted until Jan. 26, 2018.
