QUEENSLAND, Australia — Paramedics across the Southern Downs could soon be saving patients’ lives with the added help of their trusty iPhone. The release of a new iPhone app is set to improve patient safety, with a digital version of the paramedics’ Field Reference Guide, a little blue book they carry around in their pockets.

The executive manager of clinical education at The School of Ambulance and Paramedics Tony Hucker worked with six others to design the app. “This type of app is perfect for regional and rural areas where the paramedics do not have to perform large amounts of procedures,” he said.

Mr Hucker said there is lots of information for paramedics to memorise. “It is impossible to remember absolutely everything and now in a couple of taps they have all the information at their fingertips,” he said. “Having the ready ability to access checklists and information can only improve patient safety.”
