Sheriff: Slow ambulance times are not acceptable

Sheriff Tim Bailey says the Ohio ambulance company’s response times are upwards of an hour and that it is “not acceptable”

MARION, Ohio — Concerns stemming from ambulance response times have county officials and fire chiefs working to find a solution.

High response times to emergency calls by MedCare Ambulance Service are “a very serious problem” according to Sheriff Tim Bailey. “Their response times are upwards of an hour,” he said. “That’s not acceptable.”

Phil Koster, vice president of operations with MedCare Ambulance Service, said he has not received any complaints from the sheriff’s office or from other county agencies about response times over a half hour. He said they received one “unfounded” report from within Marion County about a 20-minute delay in response. “(An hour) is pretty rare, but we usually have a bit of a delay,” he said. “No one should ever have to wait an hour.”
