Elderly patient, EMS provider injured in Colo. ambulance crash

The driver of the ambulance lost control, hit a fence post on the side of the road and landed in a ditch

LAMAR, Colo. — An elderly male patient and an EMS provider sustained minor injuries when the driver of an ambulance lost control of the vehicle and crashed into a ditch.

Ronald Cook, 45, was driving a Southern Colorado EMS ambulance east on U.S. 50 when he drove into the left lane to pass eastbound traffic traveling in the right lane, The Chieftain reports.

When changing back into the right lane, he continued off the right side of the road and the ambulance struck a fence post before coming to a stop in a ditch.

The patient and EMS provider, Edward Hollandsworth, sustained minor injuries and were transported to Prowers Medical Center for treatment.

The cause of the crash is under investigation. Drugs or alcohol are not considered factors.
