Highland Park, N.J., man accused of faking story about damage to emergency vehicle

MORRIS TOWNSHIP, N.J. — A 27-year-old man afraid of getting in trouble with his new employer told police Tuesday that two teenagers tried to steal the ambulance he was operating when in fact he had crashed the vehicle into the roof of a parking garage, police said.
Mychael Rodriguez, of Highland Park, was driving for Vital Mobile Care, an ambulatory care service based in Metuchen, when he contacted police at 11:56 a.m.
Detective Mark Tessmer said Rodriguez told police the following story:
