LA CRESCENTA, Calif. — Numerous PSAs show the dangers of texting and distracted driving. Now here’s one for distracted walking.
TV helicopter crews captured a Calif. man so immersed in sending a text he walks into a 500-pound black bear Tuesday.
Just before he reaches it, he notices the huge bear — and turns and runs in the nick of time.
“I was texting my boss that I would be late for work because something is going on, and I’m coming down the stairs and I see the bear coming up the stairs toward me,” Vaz Terdandenyan told KTLA-TV. “I turned back and I ran for my life. I guess running for a marathon came in handy because I was in shape to run away!”
The bear later wandered into a resident’s backyard in La Crescenta, where fish and wildlife agents eventually tranquilized it.
It was later released deep into the Angeles National Forest.
