KALISPELL, Mont. — 9-1-1 calls are going up in Kalispell, and emergency medical workers are understaffed and working with outdated equipment — and it looks to stay that way after a levy to fund EMS services failed in the election.
With an understaffed EMS crew and outdated medical equipment, the city of Kalispell is in need of more funding for its emergency medical services. “We’re looking everywhere and we have been for a number of years. We recognized an EMS levy would be the best option,” Kalispell Fire Chief Dave Dedman explained.
The majority of voters disagreed, though as the levy failed by a little less than 200 votes during Tuesday’s general election. “The good thing out of this is that when we asked the community for this, we found that it’s not a priority for them right now. So that gives us a good direction to follow,” Dedman said.
