LAKOTA, N.D. — The Lakota (N.D.) Ambulance Service is in a desperate search for volunteers.
An article in the Lakota American, written by LAS volunteer Tami Bulik this past week, paints a grim picture that without new volunteers stepping forward, the ambulance service in the Nelson County seat may have to close its doors.
“Unfortunately, this isn’t a rumor and the Lakota Ambulance Service is sincerely in trouble,” she wrote.
The service currently has six emergency medical technicians, three emergency medical responders and two CPR-certified drivers, many of whom have been active in the organization for 10 or 20 years, she said.
They’re pulling double duty trying to cover approximately 180 shifts per month to provide ambulance service to city of 650 and the surrounding area.
