PORTLAND, Tenn. — A former EMT and volunteer fire chief has been indicted by a grand jury for stealing from the home of a dead woman while on a call.
Police say Ashley Choate was called to a woman’s home who had died from natural causes, according to NewsChannel5.
She had found cash in a vehicle parked inside the garage, and when officers came to collect the money to return to the woman’s family, it was gone.
Choate later admitted that she took the $100 but later ripped it up out of guilt.
She lost her position as EMT, resigned as fire chief and was charged with official misconduct.
