GREENVILLE COUNTY, S.C. — Greenville County is mulling ways to restructure its Emergency Medical Services (EMS) department, including the possibility of letting an outside party such as Greenville Health System run the countywide ambulance service, county officials said.
The 202-person department requires $15.5 million a year to operate, about $4 million a year more than it collects in fees, said County Administrator Joe Kernell.
The county hired a consultant to study the EMS department and find ways to cut costs, but Kernell on Monday declined to release the consultant’s draft report, saying it was still being revised.
