Baltimore paramedic suspended after incorrectly pronouncing patient dead

BALTIMORE — A Baltimore city paramedic who incorrectly pronounced a gunshot victim dead at the scene was suspended without pay.

Officials haven’t released the paramedic’s name but said the suspension is for 30 days and that he must undergo retraining and a skills evaluation.

Michael Quarles, 51, was shot in the head during a confrontation with police in August. The incident occurred at Shon’s Food Market in the 4700 block of Garrison Boulevard.
