LOS ANGELES — Researchers from around the world will present more than 40 original projects in paramedicine during an upcoming free, online EMS conference.
The International Research Conference 2021 will last for 24 hours beginning at 5 a.m. ET on Tuesday, Nov. 30, 2021, and will cover a variety of topics, including:
- neonatal care;
- COVID-19 exposure;
- early recognition of sepsis;
- resuscitation ethics;
- direct admission of COVID-19 patients;
- hemodynamic impact of ketamine vs. etomidate;
- use of whole blood in the field;
- the role of chaplains in the field;
- ethical dilemmas on the frontlines of COVID-19;
- predicting post-traumatic stress; and
- activating volunteer responders with smartphone apps.

The U.S. keynote speaker is Dr. Ginny Renkiewicz, who will present her paper, “Secondary traumatic stress in emergency services: quantifying and predicting suicidality, compassion fatigue and the effects of vicarious trauma.”
The conference is being presented by the College of Paramedics, the Australian College of Paramedicine and the Prehospital Care Research Forum at the UCLA Center for Prehospital Care.
