LEAGUE CITY, Texas — A 25-year-old League City man accused of kicking a police officer and a paramedic during an arrest is facing felony charges.

Wesley Gordon Jones was charged with two counts of assaulting a public servant, third-degree felonies punishable by up to 10 years in prison, two counts of resisting arrest, which are Class A misdemeanors, and one count of misdemeanor public intoxication.

Texas A&M University police approached Jones on University Drive in front of the North Side Parking Garage as he tried to hitchhike just before 2 a.m. Friday, according to the arrest report.

Jones was combative and “got into a fighting position,” leading the officer to pepper spray him, the report stated. Jones then kicked an officer in the chest and an EMT in the shin during his arrest, police said.

He was released from jail Friday afternoon after posting $27,000 bail.
